James Ellroy has written a script for a remake of the 1949 James Cagney noir classic, White Heat, remembed by most for the scenes in which Cagney grinds a grapefruit into his girlfriend's face and pushes his invalid mother down a flight of stairs, declaring, "Top of the world, ma!"
The Ellroy recast of the story revolves around "Cody," ringleader of a gang of thieves, who must cope with crippling migraines, an oedipal complex and a minion who wants to murder him. This one was last held by Village Roadshow productions. (Updated 5/21/03)
